The Supreme Court of Pakistan (CJP) has constituted a team to investigate theft of underground water by cement factories.
The Supreme Court DGH will be head of the committee and the team will investigate DG cement and Best way cement factories in one day. The team was formed during hearing of a case pertaining to theft of underground water by cement factories.
A three-member benches presided over by Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar conducted hearing of the case on Wednesday.
The chief justice, during the hearing, remarked, “What will happen if these big companies have been caught red-handed while using stolen water? Earlier he had ordered to not register cases against them.”
Mian Saqib Nisar further remarked the situation will be clear when our team will investigate the matter.
The civil society representative took stance in the court that cultivation was continued on the piece of land which was reserved for a cement plant. He said running a cement plant is not possible with 15 cusec feet water.
The representative further said that the top court judge should focus on one province but should focus on real issues prevailing in the country. He said the cement factories have been submitted their warranties in the court.
