QUETTA: At least 1.7 million children below the age of five would be vaccinated against crippling polio virus during three days’ anti-polio campaign in 16 districts of Balochistan that is set to commence on Monday.
Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan Coordinator Syed Faisal Ahmed has said, in pursuit of the war against polio virus, three days’ anti-polio campaign begins today (on Monday) in 16 districts of the province including the high-risk areas, “460 fixed and 530 transit points had been established where 6540 polio workers will perform their duties to vaccinate 1737264 children in 376 Union Councils of 16 districts of Balochistan,” he added.
Syed Faisal Ahmed added, for curbing the transmission of polio virus at transit points, they had been focusing on Afghan Refugees camps where children would be administrated with polio vaccine.
Talking about the security arrangements during the campaign, in-charge emergency operation center said that strict security measure have been taken to prevent any incident, “Frontier Corps and Pakistan Army would be deployed in sensitive areas of the province during anti-polio drive,’ he added.
“InChagai, DeraBugti, Jaffarabad, JhalMagsi,KillaSaifullah, Killa Abdullah,Khuzdar,Lasbella,Loralai, Mastung, Nasirabad, Nushki, PishinSherani, Quetta andZhob the anti-polio drive would commence as per announced dates,” Syed Faisal Said.
He urged the media and religious scholars to play their role and encourage parents to administrate their children with polio drops.
